4 Important Ingredients Of Link Building
Presented to you by LetsTalkSEO.com ©
Do you want to know what link building is? Do you know that the quality of link building is so important for link building? Today, I am going to pass on some of the important facts and concepts that I gathered as a web marketing strategist. I am neither a master linker not expert SEO, but I do know a thing or two about SEO concepts and marketing strategies that I want to share with you.
My other blog attracts a plethora of links, sometimes up to a couple of thousands – starting from Google toolbar backlink check to Google Webmaster Tools. And frankly speaking, none of them ever create a flutter in my blog. It attracted only a semblance of traffic. But, recently, it received two links, and lo and behold, there was a quantum jump of subscriber base by a whopping 20%.
You must be wondering what those links are. What is so special about them? How can they be instrumental in generating such subscriber base instantly?

Actually, the links were in response to a post of mine that deliberated about my experience and important lessons that I learnt in my first year of blogging. The post was like most of my other posts, if you consider the amount of link it attracted. In fact, many of my other posts fared far better in terms of attracting links and achieving traffic. But, they were way off in creating the mind blowing 20% increase in subscriber base that these two links did. What do you think could be the reason?
In fact, it is the source and quality of links that were responsible for it and they were:
- Search Engine Guide: How to kill a blog in 10 days.
- Louis Gray: Where is your focus – subscriber or traffic?
Let me analyze as to why these two links were capable of creating such a huge impact.
Pertinency
Like my blog, both The Search Engine Guide and Louis Gray regularly feature write-ups concerning the social media technologies. The target visitors of both these sites are same as my blog since my writings are relevant to the contents in these sites. Hence, the visitors at these sites are able to connect to my site as well.
Expert’s Opinion
Jennifer Laycock, who is one of the most reputed writers in the industry for more than ten years, writes for the Search Engine Guide. It is in the 29th place amongst the top 150 marketing blogs at Ad Age, and her writings there, accentuates its importance making it more profound.
Similarly, reputed technology bloggers like Corvida Raven, with innumerable blogs at famous sites like SheGreeks, Chis Brogan and ReadWriteWeb write articles at Louis Gray’s widely followed blog based in Silicon Valley. Her knowledge and comments mean a lot in the industry.
So, as you can see, in both cases, it is the writer or expert and the content provided by the sites, are the main factors that are responsible for creating the traffic as well as the subscriber base. People love to go by their opinions and my site was in the receiving end of that trust they repose, through those links. It was as though the links were providing a stamp of authority or recognition to my blog.
Certification
The links that the blog generates are a kind of certificate. What you say in the blog is, in fact, agreed upon by the author. He also finds something interesting in what you say and hence he cares to read it. Although the initial algorithm of Google carried the concepts of author-to-author endorsements, the links are devices and ways for additional reference and readings. Barring in cases of academic nature, you wouldn’t find many links that straightway endorse some other works.
But, these two articles were clear-cut, even unabashed, as the links were not camouflaged by any subtext in the article, in endorsing my article. In fact, the whole of the articles contained systematic analysis of the different aspects of my original article deliberated about. They contained the discussion, personal opinions regarding the points I raised. In other words, this was truly as authentication of my awareness in the field as well as the validity of the contents. And coming it from those reputed and trustworthy sources made those links so important for my other blog and powerful enough to create the sudden rush in subscriber.
Visitors to the site
People go by reputation and reputation is of course, a bi-product of knowledge and expertise in a particular field. It provides the strength to impress and attract people. Both Search Engine Guide and Louis Gray have build up their reputation through sheer power of knowledge and awareness and have huge followings. Hence, stamps of authentication from them, built my subscriber base substantially (almost to 16000+ subscribers without taking into account the normal traffic).
The site has a number of visitors. But the density of traffic is not everything. While social sites like StumbleUpon attracts more visitors than these two links, its impact in terms of creating a subscriber base in minimal. It is the quality and nature of traffic is of paramount importance.
Pertinence + Expert’s Opinion + Certification + Visitors = Your link of bounty
But, as you can well understand, the reputed and powerful figures in the industry wouldn’t obviously give much credence, unless the writings are informative and unique. Attracting such golden links is not everybody’s cup of tea. So, strive to pen something special and brainstorming that would be worth gold.

Great read. As I analyze sites that have high organic traffic, high PR and Alexa, I see links as the big differentiators. But to be able to parse the quality of those links is difficult. Your post explains it beautifully and it just takes old fashioned “rolling up your sleeves” to make the achieve the quality links.
